The match was the first in Forfar’s pre-season schedule on the back of six training sessions which have been hampered by a couple of niggling injuries and unavailability due to holidays.

Dunfermline, on the other hand, have been back training full-time for a couple of weeks and went into the match with Forfar on the back of a pre-season friendly at the weekend against Championship side Cove Rangers, which they won 2-0.

Both clubs are perhaps at different stages in their preparations and that may have played a part in the full-time score of 6-0 to the Pars.

Kevin O’Hara opened the scoring for the visitors on 17 minutes before Lewis McCann doubled their lead just a few minutes later.

Matty Todd made it 3-0 and that’s how it remained at the break.

Gary Irvine made a host of changes at the break as he aimed to get some minutes into legs while also casting his eye over a couple of trialists.

The home side started the second 45 well and a Callum Moore free-kick went close.

But Dunfermline soon hit their stride again and it was 4-0 when O’Hara finished well.

Despite the scoreline, Forfar were being given the physical test which is by far the most important thing at this point in the season.

The goals continued for Dunfermline with Miller Fenton and Nikolay Todorov rounding off the win.

This Saturday Forfar face more League One opposition when they travel to Alloa Athletic.
