Forfar Dramatic Society continues a successful and busy season with a fund-raising race night to be held at Strathmore Cricket Club on Saturday, June 16.
This spring has been a hectic time for the society, with the hugely popular Play, Pie and a Pint tour which saw four plays performed on three successive nights at three well-known Forfar watering holes (the Osnaburg, the Cricket Club and the Vine and Monkey), drawing capacity audiences and many requests for more of the same.
Also in May, member Ewan Phillip raised £340 for the society by executing a sponsored death-defying bungee jump.
All this brings the society nearer to achieving their long-held ambition of converting the East High Street premises into a public performance space not just for live theatre but for a variety of events.
Work is already well under way, with some radical backstage rebuilding and much-needed insulation already completed.
Next on the list come plumbing, extra toilets, fireproofing and audience seating, all aimed to be completed later this year, so that Forfar can have the town-centre live theatre space it deserves.
The society’s race night on Saturday, June 16 at Strathmore Cricket gets under starters orders at 7.30 pm, with the first in an eight-race card due to begin at 8 pm.
You can have the usual flutter and you can also ‘buy’ a horse which could win you a bottle of spirits.
Tickets are £3, available online from firstname.lastname@example.org, or you can ring Kim on 07513770609 – or just pay at the door
