AWARD-WINNING Dundee Rep Ensemble and Traverse Theatre Company present Futureproof, a brand new play written by Lynda Radley and directed by Traverse artistic director Dominic Hill.
This co-production will be performed at the Traverse Theatre as part of the venue’s programme for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2011, before playing at Dundee Rep Theatre.
Futureproof will see Dominic Hill directing at Dundee Rep for the first time in three years. Dominic will be working again with Rep Ensemble members John Buick, Irene Mcdougall and Robert Paterson and welcoming Dundee Rep Theatre’s new graduate Natalie Wallace and visiting actors Ashley Smith, Nicola Roy and Lesley Hart.
Futureproof is a magical and deeply human play set in a society obsessed by beauty and normality. The once successful freak show Riley’s Odditorium is no longer pulling in the crowds and owner Robert Riley must invent new ways to attract audiences. Riley tries to save the show and protect his family of freaks from the harsh reality of life outside the freak show.
Dundee Rep Theatre’s Artistic Director/Chief Executive James Brining said: “I am delighted that Dundee Rep Ensemble is finally making its Fringe debut. In the last 12 years we have taken work all over the world but the Traverse Theatre in August is a great place to be and the fact that Dominic has returned to work with us makes it even more special.”
Traverse Theatre’s Artistic Director Dominic Hill said: “After being away from Dundee for three years I am delighted that Dundee Rep and the Traverse have this opportunity to work together. Dundee Rep Ensemble is a very special company of actors and its great to be back in the rehearsal room with them once again working on this extraordinary new play.”
Tickets are now on sale for performances at Traverse Theatre; to book call 0131 2281404 and tickets for Dundee Rep performances will be available from early July when Dundee Rep’s new season is announced.
