Innocent pleasures

DON’T be put off by the title!

Arbroath Musical Society is busy rehearsing their production of ‘The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas’, which will run at the Webster Memorial Theatre, Arbroath, from Tuesday, February 12, to Saturday, February 16.

This is a truly funny musical where it’s pleasures are surprisingly innocent, the humour and good nature make it one not to be missed!

Based on a true story, it is the late 1970s, “The Chicken Ranch” has been operating outside of Gilbert, Texas for more then a century.

It is under the proprietorship of Miss Mona Stangley, having been left to her by the original owner. Miss Mona looks after her girls well, and is on good terms with local Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd and other important political and business leaders, who all turn a blind eye to the function of “The Chicken Ranch”.

All is well until Melvin P. Thorpe, a Houston TV reporter and do-gooder, exposes the Chicken Ranch in his watchdog TV programme. He eventually raids the ranch with his camera crew, and political ramifications cause the ranch to be closed down.

Featuring songs such as, 20 Fans, The Bus from Amarillo and Hard Candy Christmas.

The show starts at 7.30 p.m. nightly. Ticket details from the box office on 01241 435800.
