The stage is set for Tayside Symphony Orchestra’s last concert of this year, which takes place on Saturday in the Reid Hall, Forfar.

With the title of ‘An Evening with Mozart’, this concert comprises a wide range of the famous Viennese composer’s works.

On offer are two overtures, ‘The Impresario’ and ‘La Clemenza di Tito’, nos. 29 and 39, a flute/harp concerto and two songs ‘Parto!Parto!’ and ‘Laudate Dominum.’

Soloists in the harp/flute concerto are Sophie Askey and Claire Echevarria.

Sophie is a graduate of the RSAMD with a B.A. in Musical Studies and M. Mus. in Harp performance.

She has featured with various orchestras, including the Scottish Symphony, at several prestigious venues including Glamis Castle.

Claire too has played with local and national orchestras.

She has an MA from Dundee University and works as a fingerprint officers in the police service.

both ladies have been members of TSO for several years.

The third soloist is soprano Maggie Findlay, who has performed previously with TSO, notably at the Millennium Concert.

She has featured with various groups both local and national. Maggie will collaborate with TSO in the performance of the two songs which are on the programme.

Ron Walker, TSO conductor said: “This is a testing programme for the orchestra but I am pleased with the way rehearsals have gone.

“I am particularly grateful to Andrew McGarva who recently took a practice for me and impressed the players with his skill as a conductor. The orchestra is very much looking forward to collaborating with the soloists, two of whom are from our own ranks.

“We know Maggie Findlay very well too from previous musical ventures together.

“I’m quite sure the soloists and orchestra will give the audience a September evening to remember.”

Tickets are on sale at the Toy Castle, Forfar; Hoggs, Montrose , TSO members and committee members and on the door on the night. The concert begins at 7.30 p.m,, doors open 6.45 p.m.
