TRAD Angus traditional music group are running open sessions of live traditional music over the next month, with sessions being held in Glenesk and Kirriemuir during the coming week.

On Sunday August 28, Roy Henderson with Gordon and Davey Ewan will host a session at the Glenesk Retreat, Glenesk starting at 3pm.

The twins, brought up in Abernethy but now resident in Angus, are avid fiddle enthusiasts with a great repertoire of tunes from the 1700’s right up to 2011. Both are members of several ceilidh bands and are always up for a few tunes and casting their expert eyes over old fiddles. Davey works as a full-time repairer for stringed instruments and will also be playing the button-accordeon. Roy is the front man for the Portobello Ceilidh Band – a fine singer, great songs and some very nice guitar arrangements for the tunes and the songs.

On Tuesday, August 30, the Trad Angus evening session is at Three Bellies Brae, Kirriemuir, at 8pm when the special guest is Barbara Dymock. This will be an evening of powerful songs and driving bodhran. Barbara was a founder member of the bands Ceolbeg, Fon a Bhord and Palaver - to name but a few, and with musicians Carol Anderson, Martin MacDonald and Kenny Hadden has just released a solo CD entitled “Hilbert’s Hotel”.
