Ruthven cello master-class with Su-a Lee

World renowned ‘cellist Su-a Lee is holding a master-class next month as part of Ruthven Music Festival’s concert series.

The master-class will be held in Ruthven Church on Saturday, September 21.

It is part of Ruthven Music Festival’s season of classical music concerts and is an opportunity for ‘cellists of grade three and above to play their chosen piece of music to Su-a Lee. They will receive at least 30 minutes of individual, highly-specialised tuition from the famous ‘cellist.

Kathleen Campbell, Ruthven Festival Master-class co-ordinator said: “This is a fabulous chance to learn from one of Scotland’s most highly-regarded musicians.”

Su-a Lee was born in Seoul, Korea and won a full scholarship to Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester at the age of nine before moving to New York, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the famous Juilliard School She has been a member of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra since 1993 and is a founder member of Mr McFall’s Chamber, which performs avant-garde classical music.

Kathleen continued: “Su-a Lee’s previous Ruthven Festival Master-class, in 2011, was a great success. We’re delighted Su-a Lee is returning to Ruthven this September and would like to encourage all ‘cellists in the Angus, Perthshire and Dundee area, and beyond, to enrol in this master-class.

The master-class for ‘cellists of all ages runs from 10.30 am to 7 p.m. with a buffet lunch and afternoon tea included in the £25 cost. Students and school pupils are free of charge.
