Rehearsals have started for Tayside Symphony Orchestra’s summer concert which takes place in the Reid Hall, Forfar on Saturday, June 22.

The orchestra has selected an attractive programme of very popular items fitting to celebrate its 20th anniversary with Beethoven’s ‘Fidelio’ Overture, ‘Scottish Fantasia’ by Bruch and Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2 on offer.

Soloist in the Max Bruch work is Ben Norris who hails from Perth.

Ben is one of Scotland’s young leading string players. He began his studies at the RSAMD (junior department) before going on to the Royal College of Music in London.

He has performed widely in the UK as well as in France, Italy and Australia and regularly appears as part of the Scottish Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and English National Opera.

Ron Walker, the TSO conductor, said: “It is difficult for me to believe it’s two decades since TSO started, especially when I recall the concert held in June 1993 was supposed to be a one off. It was only because the players were keen for the orchestra to continue that we’re still going strong today.

“I would like to thank all the musicians who have contributed over the years, not forgetting the fabulous support we’ve had from the local community; a special word of thanks to Bill McLeod and the rest of the TSO committee for all their hard work.”

Buses will run from Montrose/Brechin for the concert - more details next week. Tickets will be on sale soon from Toy Castle, Castle Street, Forfar; Hoggs, High Street, Montrose; any member of the TSO/TSO committee or at the door on the evening. The concert which will begin at 7.30 p.m., doors open at 6.45 p.m.
