Derek Ryan is one of the biggest new Irish artists to hit the country scene and he is currently one of the hottest country artists.
Derek was well known as the lead singer of Irish pop band ‘D-Side’ achieving a multi-platinum selling single ‘Real World’ live TV appearances including Top of the Pops, GMTV etc.
Derek decided to move over to Irish country and has already achieved platinum for his first solo album ‘Made of Gold’.
Derek is the most requested artist on the Irish radio and appears regularly on SKY television’s Irish programmes Hot Country, Phil Mack International Country Show, Irish West TV and Irish North TV.
Derek has already won many musical accolades he is also a very talented songwriter Derek’s talented band consist of musicians who have backed the following well known artists Ronan Keating, Bob Geldolf, Brian Kennedy, Georgie Fame, Michael English, Jimmy Buckley, Hal Ketchum, Pam Tillis, Billy Joe Spears.
Derek Ryan has drawn a large fan base from all age groups and is especially popular with the younger audience. Derek and his band playing to crowded dance halls and theatres all over Ireland and UK encouraging a huge surge of young people learning to ‘jive’ to his music.
Derek is appearing at Monikie Hall on Saturday, August 17 and Danny Laverty and his band will start the evening at 8.00 p.m.
Danny, also from Ireland, was introduced to music from a very young age.
His home life consisted of gatherings around the piano with family and friends, and listening to the pop and country of that era, Irish show band music, Phiilomena Begley, Joe Dolan, and Elvis were to name but a few of his greatest inspirations and early recollections.
His talent for music was spotted at a young age and he was found to be always leading from the front throughout his school years at musical festivals in and around the Angus area, He was encouraged to start singing lessons, and there became the start of a long and lasting friendship with his singing teacher Ruth Powrie.
He appeared recently in concert at the Webster Memorial Theatre, Arbroath.
