STAFF AT The Gardyne Theatre in Dundee have been busy planning the spring 2013 season - and it’s a cracker!

Having closed 2012 with two fantastic sell-out concerts by Anderson, McGinty, Webster, Ward and Fisher, the theatre took a break in January to install the new orchestra pit lift which will help the theatre accommodate a wider range of productions in the future.

Grant Ritchie, Creative Directive said: “Live music and the Gardyne Theatre go well together. In our opening seasons we have presented a wide range of artists and have received excellent responses from audiences and artists alike.

“This season Dougie MacLean, Karine Polwart, Dick Gaughan and the Illegal Eagles perform for the first time in the Gardyne, and we welcome back Ricky Ross and the Budapest Cafe Orchestra following their phenomenal performance last year - gigs certainly not to be missed. Theatre and dance, of course, feature prominently and we see the return of many of our local community arts and dance groups. We also have a return visit from Bird Theatre Company with Kander and Ebb’s Cabaret, following their stunning production of West Side Story last year.”

Gilded Balloon Productions will put on a comedy night featuring the best of Scottish comedy and will also present the highly acclaimed The Agony and Ecstacy of Steve Jobs and Big Sean Mikey and Me, both having received great reviews from last year’s Edinburgh Fringe.

Grant continued: “Poet John Cooper Clarke and comedian Jerry Sadowitz join us, along with Jonathan Miller, Robert Powell and Jenni Murray to present a full and varied programme for the spring. Other major highlights include the eagerly anticipated return of Scottish Opera for a performance of La Traviata, followed by Gardyne favourites Opera Bohemia with their production of Madame Butterfly.”
