Choir to sing and stand up to cancer

SONG Shop founder Fraser McGlynn is launching an appeal to create a “Stand Up to Cancer” choir for a special one-off performance at a fundraising concert on Friday, March 8.

The choir will provide the climax to an evening of entertainment, and will take to the stage with a company of experienced performers from Montrose and further afield.

Fraser said: “On watching the televised appeal for ‘Stand Up to Cancer’, I was moved and inspired by the choir of individuals, all of whom were either undergoing treatment for cancer or whose cancer was in remission. Their bravery in dealing with their condition commanded the outmost respect, but they were prepared to take themselves out of their

comfort zone, and sing in public, in support of a campaign that could help them and thousands of others.

“There are local people who have a spirit that is resilient and inspiring. These are the individuals I would like to come forward, even although they have no singing experience, to stand up and sing, in defiance. Their courage will hopefully motivate the community to support this most worthy of causes, and perhaps organise fundraising events

themselves.”

The choir will have several rehearsals, in advance, arranged at a mutually convenient time, and will be coached by Fraser McGlyn to perform one song at the “Stand Up to Cancer Concert.”

The concert will take place on Friday, March 8in Old and St Andrews Church. Tickets for this special one-off performance are available now from Henry Hogg Newsagents, High Street, Montrose.
