Lovely views of the sea at the Beach Cafe, Montrose

Whether you’ve been for a walk on the beach or are watching your children play at the nearby playpark, the Beach Cafe at Montrose is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat or a cup of tea or coffee.

With big windows the seafront cafe on Montrose’s Traill Drive offers a lovely view of the sea while you sit back and relax.

The large windows give the restaurant a light, airy and open atmosphere.

On a Sunday afternoon my fiancé and I headed to the busy cafe for a spot of lunch.

I have recently been told I have a dairy and wheat intolerance, which makes it harder when I go out to eat.

The friendly staff at the Beach Cafe were happy to accommodate me and made me a chicken salad. It was great that they were willing to put themselves out for my dietary needs.

The poultry was succulent and tender and the salad came with beautiful craftsmanship of the tomatoes, which had been cut into pretty flowers.

My fiancé went for the classic cheese and ham toastie. The Beach cafe didn’t skimp on the filling and the toasted sandwich was bursting with cheese and ham.

He said it was a good portion size – not too big but not too small either, leaving him feeling satisfied and not stuffed afterwards.

My other half ordered a portion of chips with his meal, which he said were excellent and had the perfect crunch.

He was then persuaded to have a creamy ice cream (it didn’t take very much persuasion though!) as we were heading out to go for a walk on the beach to enjoy the sunshine.

The restaurant offers both Mr Whippy and scooped ice-cream, which come in a range of flavours.

The Beach Cafe has a great selection of sandwiches, toasties, burgers, cakes and a tasty specials menu every day, which are all at reasonable and affordable prices

It is a family-friendly restaurant and you can grab a cup of tea or coffee as you watch your children play at the neighbouring playpark.

The Beach Cafe in Montrose is open seven days a week from 12 noon to 5 p.m.

It also has a takeaway kiosk, which is open from about 10 a.m. and stays open later than the cafe, so if you’re wandering by after a stroll along the shore, you can grab a cuppa.
