The big film this week, and probably one of the big one’s of the year, is undoubtedly ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’.

Director Peter Jackson might well be milking this for all it’s worth. I mean, does a book the size of ‘The Hobbit’ really need a trilogy? But the franchise certainly has its fans and it’s bound to be another huge hit.

Predicably, the film starts off where the last one left off. After the successful escape of Bilbo, Gandalf and the dwarves from the Misty Mountains, they continue their journey to retrieve their gold from Smaug.

Unfortunately, their path is a treacherous one and before they can face the dragon - the most dangerous creature of all - they must encounter a swarm of giant spiders, dangerous wood-elves and the skin-changer Beorn.

It’s the time of year for it really but the only really festive offering this year is ‘The Christmas Candle’.

Every 25 years an angel visits the village of Gladbury and touches a candle. Whoever lights that candle on Christmas Eve will receive a miracle... However, when a sceptical young minister arrives, the old candlemaker must fight to keep the miracle alive.

Also coming soon is ‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues’.

Since his 70s heyday newsman Ron Burgundy has languished in obscurity. Now it’s the 80s and the advent of 24-hour news. And he’s back!

And finally, the one everyone is sure to be looking forward to, ‘Moshi Monsters: The Movie’.

Apparently there is going to be lots of dancing. Rejoice.
