The ‘Spirit of The Earth’ exhibition which opens at Kinblethmont Gallery, near Arbroath, on Saturday is a stunning showing of wildlife and landscape from the southern hemisphere.

From the Serengeti to South Australia there are cheetahs to zebra by London-based New Zealander Jan Coutts; rollers to terns by Perthshire’s Claire Harkess; ostrich and cassowary from Glasgow-born Lara Scouller now working in Dundee and the wild places in Aboriginal South Australia by Montrose-based Australian, Kym Needle.

Lara graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 2006 and has exhibited regularly in Scotland and also in London. Her two driving passions are drawing and nature. Jan attended Camden Art School, St Martin’s College and the Royal College of Art, graduating in 1994. She uses various media including the earth of Africa. Claire grew up on the West Coast of Scotland and graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1993. Wildlife and the natural world are predominant in her work and since being Artist-in-Residence at Edinburgh Zoo in 1998 she has travelled extensively, gathering material for her paintings

Kym was born in South Australia and since 2006 has lived in Angus where he works from his home studio.

The exhibition is open daily until September 7.
