DUNDEE Rep Theatre has announced its exciting 2012 spring/summer season.
Productions from the award-winning Dundee Rep Ensemble include the much loved Steel Magnolias, Further than the Furthest Thing and Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
Easter sees the Rep’s first Children’s Festival with the best in children’s touring theatre and dance and the Rep’s ground breaking dance company will premiere a new season of work in its home venue before a national tour.
Dundee Rep Ensemble again joins with Oran Mor to commission two brand new plays as part of the highly successful A Play, A Peh and A Pint series. Spirit of Adventure will be performed at Discovery Point as part of the Scott 100 festival and Alan Wilkins’ Forfeit will be performed in the theatre’s award-winning restaurant.
The best in dance, drama, music and comedy, begins with Mike Gibb’s Five Pound & Twa Bairns. There is the welcome return of the award-winning site specific production company Grid Iron with their latest production Barflies and Dancing Queen celebrates the timeless hits from ABBA. The Rep is hosting the only Scottish tour date in Graeae’s ground breaking musical Reason to be Cheerful featuring Ian Dury and the Blockheads’ greatest hits.
Scottish Dance Theatre will perform their new programme featuring Dogs, specially created for SDT by Rachel Lopez de la Nieta and My Sweet Little Fur by Israeli choreographer, Idan Cohen More. Comedy and music a kicks off with Abnormally Funny People, Craig Hill is back by popular demand. Dundee’s own Michael Marra, Fascinating Aida: The Cheap Flights Tour and folk rockers Skerryvore. Karen Matheson and the Blazin’ Fiddles completes the eclectic musical offerings.
Hairy MacLary will complete the season; this loveable dog will cause mischief and mayhem with his four legged friends, and just in time for the summer holidays!
