NOW THAT theatre companies across Angus have packed away their pantomime costumes, sets and props, 40 youngsters from Kirriemuir and Forfar STARS (School of Theatre Arts in Rural Scotland) are hard at work perfecting their forthcoming production – Aladdin.
The curtains will open for STARS’ production of Aladdin at the Reid Hall in Forfar on the evening of Wednesday, January 16 and will run until Saturday, January 19, when there will be a matinee performance.
“The show is being performed entirely by youngsters from STARS, which gives a fabulous slant to the customary panto format, where adults usually have most of the roles,” said producer Fiona Retalic.
Fiona explained that the performers, who are all under 16, are so committed to the show, rehearsals continued through the Christmas holidays.
She continued: “We started working on Aladdin in the summer and every member of the cast is giving 110% to ensure we’ll be ready for opening night on January 16.
“Many of the performers in Aladdin have been involved in several of my shows featuring local young singers, dancers and actors, including last year’s highly successful Guys & Dolls in Kirriemuir. With so much talent, dedication and enthusiasm on stage, as well as a great script, lots of well-known songs and all the traditional panto high jinks, Aladdin’s shaping up to be a wonderful, fun show for all the family.
“In fact, if you’re looking for a last minute Christmas present which will brighten up even the darkest January day, how about a ticket to STAR’s production of Aladdin?”
STARS’ production of Aladdin will be performed at The Reid Hall, Forfar at 7.30 p.m. from Wednesday, January 16 until Friday, January 18, 2013 with a matinee performance on Saturday, January 19. As a special pre-Christmas offer, all tickets are currently priced at £5 (after Christmas, tickets will be £7 and £5 concessions) and are available from Forfar Golf Driving Range; Garlands Florist, East High Street, Forfar; David Sims, Roods, Kirriemuir; and by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
