Strathie 59, Montrose 17
On SUNDAY, Strathmore Sharks S1/2 team played host to Montrose.
After a slow start Strathie came into their own from a scrum, Logan Doig made a good break with sound support play which enabled Eoin Chalmers to score.
Another try was scored by Logan Doig from a scrum with excellent offloading and support running, Josh Hampton converted.
Montrose began to exert pressure but could not score. Strathie made a good break from their own line only to give away a penalty beyond half way.
Again good breaks and support play by the team led to a try for Cameron Henderson. Montrose made another break but sound tackling thwarted their move.
Chalmers made a fine catch and run from a restart but was well tackled by the Montrose defence. The game became a little scrappy and Strathie were losing the ball in the breakdown. Montrose made some fine breaks and only sound tackling by Logan saved a try scoring chance.
A break lead to a scrum from a line out and Hampton scored on 28 minutes.
Montrose finally got some points on the board when their no. 10 scored a try on the 31 minute mark from a penalty with a great individual run but failed to convert.
The second half started slowly but from a maul Strathie secured the ball with Chalmers breaking to score. Hampton added the conversion. The next score was from a brilliant interception break by Finlay and a sublime pass allowed Hampton to score his second try but he missed the conversion. Some sloppy play with a lack of concentration started to creep into Strathie’s plays which led to a try for Montrose. From the restart Logan Doig scored within minutes with Callum converting. Strathie then scored from their 22 when Josh made a break then passed the ball to Tim to score on 51 minutes. The game was played end to end with chances for both sides. A mistake in defence let Montrose score on 59 minutes. From the kick off Tim scored another try for Strathie. With seconds remaining a touch line kick was chased by Cameron and an offload to Callum who received the ball but with the try line in his sights he tripped over and the final whistle was called. Overall a great game played by both teams with some excellent running and offloading play. Well done to all Strathie players. This was a great effort and it continues their unbeaten start to the season, A special mention to Logan Doig, Eoin Chalmers and David Edmeades.
