On A bright sunny day at Carnoustie the Sharks S1/2 rugby team took part in the annual Carnoustie tournament for S1/2.
It consisted of two pools of three teams with a round robin format followed by a final and play off for third and fourth. Strathmore were in a group with local rivals Montrose and Fife southern.
The first game against Fife was played at a fast pace by the Sharks right from the kick off and they showed their intent with a try in the first minute with some good off loading followed by a line break by Callum to score. The game continued in the same vein with great tackling in defence and good support play from both forwards and backs in attack. More tries were scored by Josh, Logan, Frazer and Tim.
The second game was against local rivals Montrose and again the game was played at a fast pace with great running from both sides and excellent defence. In a close first half it was two tries to one in Montrose’s favour. The second was played the same as the first but some poor tackling let the Sharks down and let Montrose in to score two unanswered tries. The Sharks kept playing and pulled a try back but could not manage to score again.
In the play off for third place the Sharks played Howe of Fife and to make up for the defeat to Montrose put in an excellent display of tackling to dominate the attack of Howe.
Some more good off loading and support play led to five tries being scored one was an excellent team effort where the forwards won the ball and carried it forward then fed the backs to run in the try.
Overall a great day’s rugby was played in a great spirit and all the team are to be congratulated on great play.
