The final of the Canmore Open Pairs was contested between Doreen Mason and Helen Nairn representing Muirhead and Birkhill against Alice Cairns and Audrey Stewart from the host club Canmore.
The visitors established a healthy lead 5-1 after three ends but after ten ends the scores were tied at seven shots each. End 11 and the Canmore skip played her ‘get out of jail card’ to steal a one-shot advantage against a lie of five shots. Alice was playing ‘saint and sinner’ bowling well towards the club house but persisting in a heavy backhand and dropping well short. The score moved from 10-7 to 10-10 with the Canmore pair fortunate to escape with three against. The drama continued in the last end when once again the Birkhill skip hit the target only to see the jack move to a bad position and she was forced to concede one.
The final score was 12-10 to Audrey and Alice. Doris Watt and Nancy Milne did well to reach the semi-final stage.
