Strathmore first XV headed to St Andrews on Saturday to take on the University team in this Caledonia League game.
Strathie started strongly after a few weeks’ break and their training and preparation showed with them running in seven tries in total following some great play from the forwards.
The forwards were playing with a great intensity and aggression which the students couldn’t handle and this allowed the backs to work from these perfect platforms and run in tries from all over the pitch.
Try of the game came from Fraser Cameron who made the 80-metre run up the pitch after St Andrews had tried to hit Strathie with everything they had, aiming for a consolation try. However Strathie were having none of it following a solid defence and turned it over allowing Fraser Cameron to sprint clear to score.
Try scorers on the day were Colin Strachan and James Kiely with two tries each and Stewart Ross, Dave Smith and Fraser Cameron each adding to Strathie’s tally. Stewart Ross added three conversions.
Strathmore’s Man of the Match was Kyle Mitchell following another solid performance.
Club captain Stuart Gray said: “Strathmore produced their performance of the season to convincingly defeat the varsity side. We are now focused on this Saturday’s home game against Gordonians where a victory should ensure we achieve our season’s target of a top half finish.”
Strathmore first XV are at home this Saturday with a 3 p.m. kick off against Gordonians and the Second XV are away to Arbroath also with a 3 p.m. kick off.
