LOCAL karter Sandy Mitchell had a excellent win in the National “O” Plate Championship held at the Rowrah Circuit in Cumbria earlier this month.

The Letham Primary School pupil competed in the four-day national event, with a good qualifying session placing him P2 on the grid.

Sandy went on to record a win and a third in both heats to put him on pole for the first final.

Finishing fourth in the first final Sandy started on P4 for the 18-lap all or nothing grand final.

A quick start moved him up into third spot off the line before passing into second spot, which Sandy held until the last lap before taking the lead and the chequered flag.

Sandy was delighted with the win and can now compete with the sought after “O” Plate on his kart.

The youngster currently lies second in the British Honda Cadet Super 1 Championship, with the next round on June 17.
