Alex Rooney (11), who lives in Letham and is a pupil of the local primary school, has just won the best unsponsored snowboarder at the Vans High Standard Competition at the Cairngorms mountain range.
Alex was up against some of the best snowboarders in the UK. He won £100 and a holiday in the Swiss Alps.
He was the youngest contestant, with the next youngest being aged 16.
The youngster has been snowboarding for just over a year, and his next big competition is at Xscape in Glasgow on May 1 when he will represent his school in the Scottish Schools Snowboard free ride competition.
If he qualifies it will be one step closer to the GB team for the next Winter Olympics.
Alex trains every Friday, normally at Glenshee but as there is not much snow there now he has been up the Cairngorms and Xscape in Glasgow. This week he has been training at Snow Factory in Manchester.
Competing in the next Olympics as part of the GB snowboarding team is his ultimate goal.
Alex will move up to Forfar Academy for session 2014/15.
