FORFAR Academy pupil Jason Bedford came third overall in his category at the Scottish Schools Triathlon Championships at Stirling University recently.
Competing in the age 17 section consisting of a 400m swim, a 14k cycle and a 2.5k run, Jason faced stiff opposition from pupils across the country.
More than 200 pupils took part in the event, hosted by Stirling Triathlon Club in partnership with triathlonscotland.
Many triathletes racing in the Schools Championships have gone on to represent Scotland at the British Triathlon Inter Regional Championships (IRC), an annual youth event bringing together the most promising young triathletes from across the UK.
Scottish Schools Championship Race Organiser Andy Turnbull, said: “This event really illustrates the explosion in popularity of triathlon, with the numbers having quadrupled in the past four years. I’m sure there are future Olympic and Commonwealth athletes amongst the competitors, but it is not just about picking up medals and it was great to see so many children involved.”
