THREE Angus masters swimmers made the long trip to Leeds at the weekend for the 2011 British masters swimming championships.
John McKay and Gary Nisbet both swam well against tough opposition but found the opposition and the long course pool difficult to adjust to.
Mark Shepherd, representing Arbroath St. Thomas, stole the show with some outstanding swims. Firstly, he equalled the Scottish age group record in the 50m Butterly and took the silver medal. This was followed up by another silver in the 100m Butterfly before producing an outstanding display in the 200m Butterfly, taking the gold medal and setting another new Scottish age group record in the process.
In other events, Angus masters swimmer Vicky Taylor, representing Forfar ASC bravely took to the river Tay for the Tayport Cup. This swim is a crossing of the river Tay, swimming from Broughty Ferry to Tayport and Vicky was placed second in the one mile race.
Angus masters are currently in discussion over pool sessions at Angus facilities and if you would like more information about these sessions or masters swimming, please contact Alastair Caird on 01307 468977 or Gary Nisbet at firstname.lastname@example.org
