Forfar Amateur Swimming Club (FASC) competed in the final Premier League Gala of the 2011 season at Olympia, Dundee recently.

The team did well to beat Menzieshill/Whitehall by 18 points and keep their Premier League status for next year.

Dundee City Aquatics (DCA) were placed first on the night, St Thomas second, Kinross third, Forfar fourth, and Menzieshill and Whitehall fifth.

Perth will probably be in the Premier League next year so it will be even tougher and the team will have to work hard to catch Kinross.

Hannah Murray, Jade Doig, Becky Laird and Lauryn Miller swam in the Medley relay for the under 10 girls. Becky Wilmshurst replaced Jade for the Freestyle relay, whilst Jade swam the individual breaststroke, Becky Wilmshurst the backstroke, Becky Laird the butterfly and Lauryn the freestyle.

The 10 and under boys were represented by Rohan Brown, Calum Murray, Calum Kelman and Mac Whyte. Rohan did fantastically at this level to win his backstroke race, but all the boys deserve a mention for their superb team effort.

Kirsty Richardson, Chloe Reilly, Erin Brown and Molly Sinclair swam for the 11/12 girls and added more valuable team points on the board. With only three swimmers, the 11/12 boys could not form a team, but still managed to make a good contribution to the overall team points with Ross Brown swimming the backstroke, L Milne swimming the breaststroke and Jack Green the freestyle and butterfly.

The 13/14 girls swam amazingly well to achieve 23 points out of a possible 30. Lucy Richardson, Ellie McCallum, Katie Phillips and Zoe Wilmshurst teamed up to swim the medley relay.

Beth Milne replaced Ellie for the freestyle relay.

Ellie, Beth and Katie were all second in their respective breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly races, whilst Anna Brodie managed a creditable third place spot in the freestyle.

Calum Sinclair was the sole representative for the 13/14 boys but, as always, put in a sterling performance in the breaststroke and freestyle races.

Holly Richardson, Roslynn McKenzie, Sarah Niblock and Nicki Wilmshurst were the 15 and over girl swimmers and put in a good effort against some tough opposition, with Roslynn and Nicki managing to achieve two third place slots, and Holly and Sarah working hard in their backstroke and butterfly races.

The boys were represented in the medley relay by Ryan Nicoll, Callum Brown, John MacKay and Glen Milne. Gary Nisbet replaced Callum for the freestyle relay, and Ryan, Gary, John and Glen participated in the individual events.

The club would like to thank all the mums and dads who help poolside and as technical officials at these events – they don’t run themselves!
