Kirrie Ladies see out a very quiet week

It has been a quiet week for Kirrie Ladies with only three games of pairs being played.

Irene Mackie did a good job as sub for Sandi Buchan when, with Eileen Cramond as her other half, she beat Wilma Phillips (subbing for Ruth Baynes) and Alison Wilkie by seven shots to five.

This was a closer score than it might have been with Irene and Eileen leading 6-1 going into the second last end. A four brought Team Phillips back into the game leaving them only one shot down at the start of the last end but there was no fairy-tale finish for them, with Irene claiming a single.

Marnie Ewart and Wilma McGibbon pulled their best shots out of the bag at the last two ends taking a double and a treble against Maggie Orr and Betty Whytock who were leading 3-2 at the end of the fourth. Final score was 7-3 in
Marnie’s favour.

Barbara Sherriff and Eva Bell had a run-away score against Isobel Keillor and Katherine Cran. In spite of the Keillor Pair getting on the board first with a double, it was the last end before they managed to get another single by which time the Sherriff Pair had notched up
nine shots.

In the Forfar Challenge, Kirrie Ladies exited at the hands of Forfar Men.

Forfar Ladies Open was played over two days this week. Seven Kirrie members took part in this enjoyable competition. One rink comprised Marnie Ewart, Barbara Sherriff, Catherine Smith and Sandi Buchan and the second was Maggie Orr, June Coull (Angus Glens) Isobel Keillor and Wilma McGibbon.

Both rinks had some successes and some failures and, sad to say, they finished just outside the medal position.
