CAPTAIN Gary Hewitson batted through the innings for the Strathmore Cricket Club first team on Saturday - but it wasn’t enough to get his side a win.
Indeed, after a solid enough start, he lost partners at steady intervals in difficult batting conditions under cloudy skies.
Gary ended up with 43 not out and Mark Stewart contributed 15, but they were the only two batsmen to get into double figures.
M. Watters took four wickets for 18 and S. Perera four for 22 as Strathmore crumbled to 100 all out.
In reply, Dundee High School FP toiled to get going and slumped to 11 for two and then 66 for five.
But S. Perera (33) helped steady the ship and the visitors went on to creep over the line for a deserved victory.
Chris Milne was the best of the Strathie bowlers, with three for ten, while Shaun Wilkie took two wickets for 40 in his spell.
That was the Strathie first team’s final home league game of what has been a pretty fragmented season weatherwise,
This coming Saturday they are away to Gordonians, before finishing off the campaign with a trip to Forthill the following Saturday.
The second team were due to be in action on Sunday past, entertaining Glendelive in the league.
But that match was called off as the visitors could not muster a team.
The seconds are at home again this coming Sunday, when Guthrie Park from Brechin visit town, with home games against Clackmannan and Arbroath in the pipeline.
