Fourth place for Forfar at Kinross

Forfar Amateur Swimming Club (FASC) participated in the Premier League Gala held at Kinross recently.

Forfar were placed fourth, beating Menziehill and Whithall by only two points, but had matched Kinross, who finished third, for most of the gala.

Arbroath’s St Thomas were second, pushed into second place by a dominant Dundee City Aquatics (DCA) first team.

The ten and under boys swam extremely well on the night, achieving 25 points out of a possible 30

The team of Rohan Brown, Matthew McSheffrey, Calum Kelman and Mac Whyte were second on both relays.

Rohan and Mac won their backstroke and freestyle individual races. Matthew and Calum also performed well in the breaststroke and butterfly respectively.

The 13/14 girls were also on form. Zoe Wilmshurst, Ellie McCallum, Katie Phillips and Lucy Richardson teamed up to achieve a second place in the medley relay.

Beth Milne replaced Ellie for the freestyle relay and another second place was secured. Beth was first in her backstroke race, and Katie, Ellie and Lucy swam well in the butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle events.

All swimmers gave a 100% however, with Calum Sinclair deserving special mention for his discipline and work ethic as the sole representative for the 13/14 boys.

His contribution was critical to ensuring possible security in the Premier League for next season.

The 10 and under girls of Becky Wilmshurst, Jade Doig, Becky Laird and Lauryn Millar teamed up for both relays with Becky Wilmshurst swimming the individual backstroke,

Becky Laird the butterfly, Lauryn the freestyle and Jade, whose times are improving markedly with every swim, the breaststroke.

The 11/12 girls team also swam well against tough opposition with Chloe Reilly swimming the backstroke, Niamh McSheffrey the breaststroke, Erin Brown the butterfly and Kirsty Richardson the freestyle.

It was tough for the 11/12 boys too in the top Midlands league although Jack Green was second in his number 1 stroke of butterfly.

Ross Brown swam the backstroke, Luke Millar the freestyle and M Crighton the breaststroke.

It was the first outing for the newly formed 15 and over girls team of Holly Richardson, Rosie Fletcher, Sarah Niblock and Nicki Wilmshurst, with Holly swimming the backstroke, osie Fletcher the breaststroke, Sarah the butterfly and Nicki the freestyle.

The 15 and over boys comprising Ryan Nicoll, Callum Brown, John Mckay and Glen Milne teamed up to achieve second place in the medley relay.

Callum was replaced by Gary Nisbet for the Freestyle relay where an unfortunate wobble on the block proved that the even most experienced swimmers can be caught out.

Ryan, Callum, Gary and John competed in the Backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle events.

Gala Star was Katie Phillips and Man of the Meet was Callum Brown, with Calum Sinclair and Lauryn Millar receiving Achievement certificates.
