JUNIOR cricket at Strathmore Cricket Club emerges from indoors on Monday, April 16 for a busy season of practice and competition.
The club’s younger members have been preparing for the new season by participating in Street20 cricket at Lochside Leisure Centre and a cricket camp is planned for the second week of the school holidays, but the time is fast approaching to move outside for the new season.
Once again this year the club will be fielding junior teams at under-11, under-12, under-13 and under-15 levels.
There will also be opportunities for under-18s to play in a midweek squad.
All of this is on top of regular weekly coaching programmes which help children and young people hone their skills.
These weekly sessions run from 6.15 pm to 8 pm each Monday evening.
All sessions are run by qualified coaches, with considerable experience in supporting the development of young cricketers.
Last year, Strathmore Cricket Club had about 50 junior members.
This year the club hopes to build on this base and bring in many more young players.
Local community cricket coach Clarence Parfitt will be visiting some of the local primary schools, giving children taster sessions.
The club hopes that this will generate an interest and that some children will want to develop their interest further.
New members will be very welcome at the first coaching session on Monday, April 16, whether they have any playing experience or not.
