A busy start to the season for Forfar Ladies

It has been a busy start to the curling season for Forfar Ladies with various competitions taking place.

In the Breckenridge Bonspiel competing for Forfar Ladies was skip Anne Shaw with Heather Farqhuar, Mari Brown and Diane Acheson, the girls played three games of three ends each.

The club’s opening game followed the usual format of a three rink match between president Anne Shaw and vice president Moira Adam.

The vice-president’s three teams had two wins and a loss which gave them victory over all. The highest up rink was Alison Orr, Lyndsey Hamilton, Moira Haggart and Elizabeth Anderson winning with 10-4.

In the Mixed Bonspiel, Forfar Ladies were represented by Anne Shaw, Karen Neill, Helen Christie and Gillian Duff who teamed up with four Forfar Men to create two mixed teams. Both teams played well.

Four teams took to the ice to begin battle for the club trophy. Helen Christie, Heather Farquhar, Moira Haggart and Mary Campbell met Alison Orr, Lyndsey Hamilton, Rhoda Keith and Mari Brown.

Alison’s team won the first three ends, however Helen’s team came back to take the lead by the fifth end and then stretched their lead and eventually came out on top with 11-7.

The next rink saw Lillian Carnegie, Anne Shaw (sub), Nan Hamilton and Diana Ewart play Maureen Pattullo, Margaret Grant, Elizabeth Robertson and Elizabeth Anderson in a run away game for Maureen up to the sixth end when Lillian gained two shots followed by four shots in the seventh. Maureen’s team gaining the end result was peels at eight shots each. Shot at the last end to give her victory by 10-6.
