WEST END RETURN TO THE TOP OF THE TABLE

FORFAR West End returned to the top of the East Premier League on Saturday, with a narrow three-two victory over Arniston at Strathmore Park.

West went a goal behind in 12 minutes when Steve Morris netted from close range.

However, they were back on level terms midway through the first half, Bryan Duell netting from the spot after Grant Lawson had been brought down in the area.

A second Duell penalty, for hand ball, had West in front after 69 minutes, but Arniston hit back to make it two-two, thanks to a David Murie strike.

With five minutes to go the visitors were reduced to ten men when Ally Foster was red-carded and, two minutes from time, Stewart McConnachie cracked home an invaluable winner for the home side.

The result takes West on to the 24-point mark, two ahead of Kinnoull, who have played two games more.

This coming Saturday, Forfar West continue their quest for league points when they travel to take on Penicuik Athletic (kick-off 2.15 pm).

In the East North League on Saturday, Kirrie Thistle recorded a fine four-one victory over East Craigie.

Goals from Stuart Russell, Ally Scott and Andy Ferguson had Thistle three ahead at the interval.

Cairney pulled one back for the visitors, but Thistle's Kris Morrice netted with a spectacular strike to make it four-one.

Meanwhile, Forfar Albion bowed out of the GA Engineering Cup on Saturday, going down by the odd goal in three to Glentanar in a second round tie.

Ian Plenderleith had Albion in front soon after the interval, but the home side hit back to score twice and progress in the tourney.

This Saturday, both Kirrie Thistle and Forfar Albion are in league action, Thistle at Dundee Violet and Albion away to Broughty Athletic (kick-offs 2.15 pm).
