TOURING AUSSIE ROTARIANS PIPPED AT STRATHIE

IS it a sign of what's to come this summer - the Aussies getting whipped on these shores?

That's not quite what happened at Lochside on Sunday when a party of touring Aussies took on a team of local Rotarians and friends, put together by Kirriemuir Rotarian Keith Hopkins.

The match was just one of several involving the touring party, who are being hosted by the International Fellowship of Cricket Loving Rotarians (IFCR).

The party of Australian cricketers, spouses and supporters arrived at Heathrow on Tuesday, June 16 and arrived in Scotland after visits to Bourne in Lincolnshire, Staffordshire (for the IFCR Convention), and Shropshire.

Thankfully, the weather remained kind for the first stage of the short Scottish tour, the light rain not really having any bearing on the afternoon's action.

In what was a keenly contested, tight affair, Keith's invitational eleven did just enough to get the better of the Aussie visitors, with Strathie vice-president Alan McKay producing a man-of-the-match performance with the bat, would you believe?

A social evening in the Strathie clubhouse followed.
