Strathie Sharks progress to next round of the cup

The Srathie Sharks Under-18 squad cup game against Caithness was in serious doubt after the pitch at Forfar was unplayable.

Thankfully Montrose RFC helped out and the game went ahead in the coastal town.

Full credit must be given to the Caithness outfit who made the six-hour journey with only 11 players to ensure the game could be played.

Strathie did loan several players to the visitors, but, in their first game in ten weeks the Strathie squad sent their visitors home empty handed after a convincing victory which saw thm safely through to the next round of the Caledonian Cup.

The Strathie Sharks S1/2s squad travelled north to Stonehaven on Sunday to play a friendly fixture against Mackie in near perfect conditions.

Mackie proved to be a tough test for a depleted Strathie side due to lack of players.

Mackie generously lent Strathie four players to allow the game to go ahead. Strathie started well and pressured Mackie into a few errors but couldn’t convert the pressure into points.

Mackie convincingly won the first two matches, by four tries to nil in the first and five tries to nil in the second game. In the third and final 15 minute game Strathie came to life and turned the tables on Mackie, winning by five tries to two.

Michael Baldie scored one of the Sharks tries and Jack Wilson converted three of them.

Strathie’s four other tries were scored by players from Mackie wearing a Sharks shirt for the game.

All the other teams enjoyed the muddy training conditions at Inchmacoble on Sunday.

Strathie Sharks continue to look for new players at all age groups. Log on to www.strathmore-rugby.co.uk for more information.
