SPARKLING STRATJIE MAKE IT THREE WINS ON THE TROT

AFTER an indifferent start to the new season Strathmore Cricket Club's first eleven are in a rich vein of form.

And, on Saturday, they totally blitzed Forthill with bat and ball to rack up a third straight league victory.

Taking first lease of the wicket at Forthill, they got off to as solid a start as they have enjoyed all season.

Forty-seven runs were on the board before the first wicket fell and it was 97 for two as the visitors began to pile on the runs.

Mike Gourlay continued his excellent form with the bat, scoring 58 as an opener, and there were excellent contributions of 61 by Mark Stewart and 52 by Gary Hewitson as Strathie finished with a massive score of 237 for the loss of seven wickets.

And what the batsmen did the bowlers were to match - or even better!

Indeed, the game was all over in 20 overs as Strathie put the home side to the sword with some excellent bowling and fielding.

Mark Stewart took four wickets for just ten runs and Steve Blackie also claimed four victims for 24 runs as Forthill's ten wickets were skittled for a paltry 37!

Meanwhile, a new date has been set for the final stages of the Factory Cup six-a-side tourney.

Fifteen teams set out in quest of the silverware and the competition had reached the semi-final stage when the heavens opened.

The semi-final stages, followed by the final, will take place at lochside on Sunday, July 18.

The Strathie first team is at home to Rossie Priory this Saturday (players meet at 12 noon):- Christopher Milne (captain), Steven Blackie, Matthew Simpson, Mark Stewart, Douglas Sayers, Michael Gourlay, Gary Hewitson, Dale Sweeney, Imran Haider Saim, Grant McLaren and Craig McDonald.

The Strathie second eleven to travel to Coupar Angus on Sunday is as follows (players to meet at 12.30 pm):- Craig McDonald (captain), Andy Sturrock, Eamon Al-Ansari, Jonathan Blackie, David Sneddon, Grant McLaren, Norman Milton, Douglas Sayers, Ryan Hedge, Chris Hynes and Dale Sweeney.
