MANAGER SOUGHT TO SAVE LETHAM LADS FROM FOLDING

A LONG-STANDING local amateur football club is in danger of folding - unless a new manager can be found to take the reins ahead of the new campaign in August.

Bruce Fleming took over as manager of Letham Lads Club in 2008 but has now stepped down to run his son's boys' club team.

That leaves a void at the club that requires to be filled.

"If we are unable to find a coach/manager it's likely that Letham will not be able to continue," explained Marc Gourlay.

That would be a great shame, for the club has been on the go for over four decades.

It was away back in 1966 that Letham Lads FC was established by local lads Dave Wilkie and Arch Shepherd, who ran the team until 1970 Dave Kenny then took over as manager until 1985, the club securing five league championships and numerous cups as members of the Forfar & District League.

In 1985, Fred Gourlay took over as manager and, two years later, George Thomson joined as his assistant.

The Forfar & District League disbanded in 1990 due to reduced number of teams, Letham then opting to join the Midlands AFA in Dundee.

The club was promoted into the first division after only two seasons and, in 1994, the Lads clinched a first division treble of awards to secure promotion to the premier division.

Success continued to come the way of Letham Lads and, in 1998, they reached the seventh round of the Scottish Amateur Cup, going out to eventual winners West Kilbride Thistle.

Mark Litterick took over as manager in 2003 and, under his reign, Letham won the first division in 2005 and reached the final of the North of Tay Cup, losing two-nil to Fair City of Perth.

The hope is that Letham Lads Club will continue to be part of the local amateur football scene in the seasons ahead and that a new manager will come on board to help steer the club to further success.

Anyone interested in acting in the capacity of manager or coach can get further details by contacting Marc Gourlay on 07958124149.

Marc added that the club is also keen to recruit new playing members ahead of the start of the 2010-2011 season in the Midlands Amateur League second division.
