Incredible experience for Duncan
Duncan Menzies of Forfar Young Curlers has completed his participation in the first Youth Winter Olympics, staged at Innsbruck in Austria.
Maybe the result wasn’t exactly as Team GB would have wanted (finishing tenth overall), but it has surely been an incredible experience for all involved.
Team GB, with Duncan skipping the team, finished the mixed curling event with three wins (Italy, Russia, Austria) and four losses (Sweden, Germany, Canada, Japan). It certainly was a tournament of two halves, with four defeats in a row, followed by the three wins on the bounce. Perhaps the team did not have enough practice prior to the tournament to really gel as a unit early on, and that showed in the results of the first four games. Only four more years to wait for another chance for Team GB.
In the Mixed Doubles knockout competition which is a fun event in these Olympics, the players were matched up with a competitor from another country.
Duncan Menzies of GB, was paired wth Taylor Anderson of the USA. The pair won their first two games, but were knocked out at the quarter-final stage by the pairing from Japan and South Korea.
