Funspiel proves to be a great day

THIS weekend, nine teams arrived at Forfar Indoor Sports ready to take part in the North Qualifier of the Funspiel.

As there was a spare sheet of ice, hotshots took place and for the team who had the bye, a scavenger hunt was carried out so everybody was doing something and kept busy.

All games were three ends but within that short period of time, great curling was being witnessed with great sportsmanship and spirit.

The Under-13s was a close affair with any team qualifying but it was Forfar to fair strongest after the last round. The Under-15s was equally as good as the Under-13s, with good shot making.

The last round game between Forfar and Aberdeen would prove to be the decider as both teams were unbeaten in their other two games but it was to be a Forfar winner.

The winners of Under-13 qualifier were: Nicola Joiner, Adam MacDiarmid, Graeme Grant and Daniel Harrison.

The Under-15 winners were: Ewan Maguire, Bruce Keillor, Fraser Smith and Angus Redford.

In the hot shots event, Inverness under-13 and Aberdeen under-15 scored 38 points and the scavenger hunt was another draw, with Aberdeen Under-15s and Elgin Under-13s winning 12 out of 15 points.

Forfar Indoor Sports has extended a huge thank you to all who helped on the day but most importantly, give their praise to every junior who took to the ice and demonstrated brilliant sportsmanship and etiquette.
