FORFAR STRIKE LATE TO DRAW WITH LEADERS LIVY

FORFAR Athletic salvaged a point with a late, late strike in a rip-roaring finale to this home encounter with league leaders Livingston.

There wasn't a great deal in the way of chances in the opening half, although Paul Watson struck the woodwork when it looked easier to score after five minutes.

Forfar appeared to be getting the upper hand in the second period when Livingston broke at pace, allowing Robbie Winters to net in 55 minutes.

Six minutes later and it looked game, set and match for the visitors when Hamilton produced a great piece of skill to work an opening and thunder the ball home from 14 yards.

But Forfar, under the Campbells, don't roll over easily, and, within two minutes they were right back in the game, a neat move through the middle opening things up for Ross Campbell to hammer low past McKenzie.

The Loons pummelled the Livy goal thereafter, but, as the game went deep into injury time, it looked as if all their efforts had been in vain.

Then, a melee ten yards into the Forfar half had a dozen players involved in handbags.

The referee and his stand-side assistant produced four yellow cards, including one to Forfar's Kevin Fotheringham, who had already been booked and so was sent packing.

But that did not stop the home side having one last go five minutes into time added on, and, when they won a free-kick on left, the ball was sent deep into the area for one final crack at the equaliser.

Livy struggled to clear and Steven Tulloch was first to react, prodding the ball past the keeper and into the empty net to earn Forfar a much merited share of the spoils.
