FORFAR LEAVE IT LATE TO SNATCH THREE POINTS
FORFAR Athletic left it late to get the better of a stuffy Elgin City side at Station Park on Tuesday evening.
However, Ian Harty's last-minute strike was enough to take the Loons above Berwick Rangers and into third place in the division.
In truth it was no more than Dick Campbell's man deserved, although they weren't at their best on a surface that became more tricky as the temperatures dropped.
Stephen Tulloch came close to giving the home side a first half advantage with a shot that cannoned off the crossbar.
In the second period, as the visitors dug in for a draw, Forfar had by far the bulk of the possession, but continued to pass up chances.
Paul Watson saw his long-range shot parried by the keeper, Ian Harty's penalty strike was well saved and a Chris Templman snap-shot struck the post.
It looked as it if was going to be one of those nights until, in the 89th minute, a corner from the left led to a scramble in the area, Ian Harty reacting quickly to poke the ball home.
The game ended with ugly scenes at the corner flag, and, when the dust had settled, Forfar's Tulloch and Elgin's McDoanld was sent packing.
Next up for the Loons is a trip to the national stadium on Saturday, to take on Queen's Park.
