Forfar crash at home in local derby

FORFAR Athletic went down to Arbroath by four goals to two in an entertaining local derby at Station Park on Saturday afternoon.

Despite what the end score-line may suggest there was little between the sides throughout the 90 minutes.

The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute when a Stuart Malcolm downward header from a corner on the right eluded Ross Campbell and and Marc McCallum.

That lead was doubled four minutes from the break when Colin Samuel swivelled and caught out the Forfar defence with a neat finish.

Forfar enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the second period but when substitute Lee Sibanda smashed the ball high past McCallum in the 75th minute it looked game over.

The home side pulled a goal back through substitute Martyn Fotheringham ten minutes from time.

Paul Sheerin scored a great individual goal to make it four-two for the visitors.

But Forfar never gave up and twice Nicky Low tested goalkeeper Darren Hill with well-struck shots before Martyn Fotheringham scored his second a minute from time.

The Loons will now bid to return to winning ways on Tuesday evening when Dumbarton are visitors to Station Park.
