FORFAR Athletic secured their place in the Scottish second division with a battling two-one victory at Stenhousemuir on Saturday.
As it turned out the result at Ochilview wouldn’t have mattered, for Albion Rovers were unable to turn up the heat at home to already Stirling Albion.
However, it was satisfying for the Loons that they did the needful off their own back.
Forfar got off to a great start when, in four minutes, a Bradley Coyne effort was parried by the goalkeeper into the path of Ross McMillan, who stabbed into his own net.
The Warriors hit back to level in 15 minutes, Grant Anderson latching on to a ball from Eric Paton to slot past Greg Paterson.
Forfar got back in front in the 22nd minute, courtesy of a great Martyn Fothertingham strike, a shot from the edge of the area that found the top corner of the net.
Having nosed in front for a second time, the visitors dug in and ground out the result that was not only to keep them in the second division for another season, but to eventually move above Brechin City into seventh place in the table.
