Forfar Boys unlucky in cup game

Forfar Boys Under-15s faced Luncarty Tangerines at home in the quarter final of the J. Bolton Cup last Sunday with a squad line-up of Beattie, Rigby, Duncan, Crozier, Roy, Simpson, Shortridge (c), Baillie, Watt, Edward, Ferrier, Norrie, Urquhart, Davidson, Menmuir.

Although Forfar started the game well they were eventually pegged back by a strong side from the league above them and despite competing excellently all over the park they were unable to turn their commitment and effort into enough goals to win the game.

Forfar took an early lead when Edward scored at the second attempt from a throw into the box by Baillie.

It was soon 2-0 when Watt showed good strength on the right to set up Edward who floated a great right foot shot into the net for his and Forfar’s second.

Edward then set up Watt who saw his shot go the wrong side of the near post. The visitors pulled a goal back but Forfar responded with man of the match Edward seeing his shot also go past the post. Unfortunately for Forfar, Luncarty scored again near the end of the first half to go in level at the break.

Early in the second half Forfar went three two down but nevertheless they kept working hard as they tried to get back into the game.

Simpson and Watt combined well to set up Edward who saw his effort on goal pushed past the post for a corner. Luncarty then went four two up but Forfar kept at them as Edward fired a good effort over the bar before Shortridge got on the end of a Baillie free kick but his header went straight into the visiting ‘keeper’s hands.

Late on Menmuir set up Davidson but his shot from the edge of the box was too close to the keeper.
