End of season cricket awards

The 2012 season for Strathmore Cricket Club ended with the annual smoker and presentation of awards held before a company of almost 80 in the clubhouse.

Members of the company were entertained by guest speaker Graham (Spider) McLaren, with Philip Melbourne providing the comedy.

The main awards were presented as follows:- First 11 batting (J. M. Farquhar Cup) - Steven Blackie; runner-up - Gary Hewitson.

First 11 bowling (Bill Duthie Cup) - Shaun Wilkie; runner-up - Christopher Milne. Second 11 batting (Sandy Oram Cup) - Gary Hewitson; runner-up - Jonathan Blackie. Second 11 bowling (W. C. Cook Award) - Alan McKay; runner-up - Andy Sturrock.

Melville Cup for the best under-18 bowler in senior league cricket - David Sneddon. Century scores - Mark Stewart and Gary Hewitson. First 11 players’ player of the season - Steven Blackie. Second 11 players’ player of the season - Alan McKay.

Most improved senior player of the season - Ed Taylor. Clubman of the season (Lochside Cup) - Imran Saim.

Earlier in the season the junior awards were presented as follows:- Under-11 Kwik Cricket: Batting - Nathan Clark; bowling - Lennon Sturrock; most improved player - Euan Cooper. Under-12 Mini-Hardball: batting - Paul Rennie; bowling - Lennon Sturrock; most improved player - Paul Rennie. Under-13: Batting - Hamzah Ahmed; bowling - Lennon Sturrock; most improved player - Paul Rennie. Under-15: batting - Jonathan Blackie; bowling - Jonathan Blackie; most improved player - Dylan Byrne. Winner of the Canmore Trophy for the best junior in 2012 - Jonathan Blackie.

The 2012 season will be completed with the annual general meeting to be held in the clubhouse on Sunday, December 16 from 2 p.m.

An open invitation is extended to all members to attend the annual general meeting

Members of the present committee would like to hear from anyone with an interest in the sport who would like to get involved, whether it be at playing or coaching level or helping with any of the aspects involved in the day-to-day running of the club as members begin planning for the 2013 season.
