Artificial pitch progress
FORFAR Athletic could soon have the benefit of an artificial pitch sooner rather than later (writes Sarah McLean).
In his report, due to be read at Thursday’s annual general meeting, chairman Neill Wilson claims that the team could soon be playing on a 3G surface similar to the ones at Airdrie and Stenhousemuir.
Mr Wilson said: “The project is progressing quite well and we are interviewing prospective companies.”
The change in pitch will come about thanks to the award of three hundred thousand pounds from Cash Back from Criminals.
The money is due to be shared between the Forfar Athletic youth set up and Forfar Farmington Girls Club.
Although artificial pitches can take some time to get used to Mr Wilson says that the present squad are comfortable playing on this type of surface as their home venue.
He added: “It will be installed in the close season.
“All going well it will go in as soon as the last competitive game is played at Station Park.
“I don’t know when this will be exactly if we are involved in play-offs at either end.”
He concluded: “At the moment we are holding meetings as there are so many different options so we have to look at it closely.”
