FORFAR Athletic were the only Angus team to record a win this weekend, writes Sarah McLean.
Brechin City and Montrose both had draws against Alloa Athletic and Queen’s Park, respectively, while Arbroath lost to league leaders Queen of the South.
Forfar Athletic won 3-2 at Station Park against Stenhousemuir with two goals from Gavin Swankie and another from Kevin Motion to ensure three points.
The Loons are sitting third in the Second Division table with 19 points. Ahead of them are Alloa Athletic in second with 23 and league leaders Queen of the South with 29.
As we went to press, Forfar were preparing to host Queen of the South at Station Park.
This coming weekend will see the Loons travel to Brechin City for their second derby clash of the season.
For their part, Brechin City drew 2-2 with Alloa Athletic with goals from Jonathan Brown and Andrew Jackson. Brechin City are currently seventh in the league just behind Arbroath and ahead of East Fife. They were also looking towards midweek football as we went to press with a trip to Albion Rovers.
Arbroath suffered defeat at Gayfield on Saturday when Queen of the South took away a 3-2 win and three points. Both Arbroath goals came from Steven Doris.
The Red Lichties are also looking at midweek football tonight (Wednesday) when they host bottom of the table outfit Stranraer.
This coming weekend, Arbroath will travel to East Fife on Saturday with hopes of three points to give them a boost up the Second Division table.
Montrose faced their one-time ‘bogey team’ on Saturday when Queen’s Park arrived at Links Park. Despite a goal in the first minute from Lloyd Young, the Spiders equalised on the hour mark.
This weekend Montrose are at home once again when third place Peterhead will make the journey south. However, with only a point between them a win for Montrose could see them leap up the Third Division table.
