FORFAR Athletic was the only Angus team to guarantee its place in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup this weekend, writes Sarah McLean.

But it all still hangs in the balance for Arbroath after they held SPL side Celtic to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

It looked dicey for Forfar throughout the first half when Ayr United scored early on in their Scottish Cup fourth round tie. However, the ‘Loons’ fought back in the second half to get two good goals courtesy of loan-signing Willie Robertson and Charlie King. While the visitors had a number of chances, ‘keeper Jack Hamilton kept them at bay and Forfar booked their place in the fifth round.

The ‘Loons’ will travel to Falkirk in the fifth round.

It is back to league action for Forfar Athletic this weekend as they travel to face Albion Rovers.

Arbroath did well to hold Celtic to a draw at Parkhead. Despite going 1-0 down early on thanks to an own goal from Alex Keddie the Gayfield side performed well to keep the champions at bay. The replay will take place on Wednesday, December 12.

Should Arbroath win, they will travel to Raith Rovers in the fifth round.

This weekend Arbroath will host Stenhousemuir at Gayfield.

Brechin City saw their run of good results come to an end with a 2-0 defeat to St. Mirren. Now they can concentrate on their league campaign.

This coming Saturday they will welcome Ayr United to Glebe Park.

Third division side Montrose travelled to Berwick Rangers for the only league match to take place on Saturday.

Needing a win to keep them in the play-off spots, they did just that and took away three points with a 4-1 win.

Two early goals came from Leighton McIntosh and Jamie Winter while the deal was sealed late into the second half by Scott Johnston and Lloyd Young.

This coming Saturday Montrose are away again as they face East Stirlingshire.
