IT HAS been a busy week for teams in Angus, writes Sarah McLean.
On Tuesday night there was league action for Second Division sides Forfar Athletic and Brechin City when they faced Queen of the South and Albion Rovers, respectively.
Forfar were hoping for a good result against the league leaders to see them into Saturday’s derby against Brechin but they ended up on the wrong side of a 5-1 scoreline.
Brechin, on the other hand, recorded yet another win under new manager Ray McKinnon when they beat Albion Rovers 2-1 away from home.
Brechin have had new life breathed into them under McKinnon and so there was much interest in the second derby meeting of the season between them and Forfar Athletic.
Unfortunately for Forfar they had another defeat after going down to 10 men. Brechin took utmost advantage of it and took away three points and a 4-1 victory.
Arbroath also saw midweek action when they welcomed Stranraer to Gayfield. The home side ensured three points with a 2-1 win.
They were not so fortunate on Saturday when they travelled to East Fife and came home empty handed after a 2-1 defeat.
It is all Angus teams together in the table at the moment with Forfar and Brechin on equal points in third and fourth with Arbroath sitting fifth just a point behind.
Third Division side Montrose have stormed up the table to fourth place after defeating Peterhead 2-0 at Links Park on Saturday. The Gable Endies are now hoping for a good run of results on their next two away trips as their next home game will be against Rangers on December 15.
This coming Saturday it will be a return to cup action in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.
Forfar Athletic will welcome Ayr United to Station Park in what they hope will be a lucrative home tie. Brechin City will travel to St Mirren and Arbroath are away to Celtic.
In the Third Division Montrose will travel to Berwick Rangers.
