FORFAR West End returned to action after two blank weekends and concerns about the club’s immediate future.
The men from Strathmore Park were involved in cup action, bowing out of the GA Engineering tourney at the first hurdle.
They went down by four goals to one at home to Bankfoot Athletic.
West found it hard going, and were three goals down after just half an hour, Stuart Allan, Alan Stewart and Danny Noble putting Bankfoot in the driving seat.
Stewart made it four early in the second period, Gavin Hood netting a consolation for the home side in the 82nd minute.
It wasn’t a good afternoon all round for local junior sides, with Forfar Albion and Kirrie Thistle also crashing out of the GA Engineering Cup.
Kirrie Thistle came close, earning a one-all draw in open play against Dundee North End, but then going out in the resultant penalty shoot-out.
Dave Evans had the Dundee outfit in front midway through the first period, but Thistle hit back to level through Phil Donaldson with 15 minutes to go.
North End went on to win the penalty shoot-out by three strikes to two.
Forfar Albion lost out by four goals to nil at Dundee Violet.
The Dundee side had Jamie Sime sent off after 20 minutes but still progressed, thanks to goals from Mark Pirie (2), Ryan Tennant and Lindsay Gray.
This Saturday, Forfar West End return to East Super League action when they play host to Linlithgow Rose, the game kicking off at 2.30 pm.
In the East North League, Kirrie Thistle travel to take on Blairgowrie, while Forfar Albion are at home to Dundee East Craigie.
