LETHAM Lads Club twice went down narrowly over the course of the past week as the 2010-2011 season fast draws to a close.
At Kelso, they lost by two goals to one.
Letham started this game the dominant force, taking the game to Kelso through some great passages of play and creating numerous opportunities which, in the main, were saved by an in-form Kelso keeper.
But it was Kelso who opened the scoring on the half-hour mark with a wonder stike/cross from the touchline that went straight into the top corner.
For the remainder of the first half Letham continued the better team.
The second half started badly for Letham, losing a very early goal to go two behind.
Letham pulled one back after and excellent free-kick saw Whelan pass for Dryburgh put in Robertson.
Letham continued to press forward for an equaliser and Mathieson came closest with a flick over the Kelso keeper only to be denied by the crossbar.
Letham’s man-of-the match was Jonny Whelan.
At home to league champions Coldside in the last game of the season, Letham Lads Club lost by five goals to four.
After soaking up early pressure Letham started to hold their own and got the break-through on the 20 minute mark when a wayward shot from S. Robertson fortunately landed at the feet of M. Valentine to slot home.
Letham’s lead was short lived as Coldside found the equaliser shortly afterwards.
The game continued to to be an even contest up till the break.
The second half them produced a flurry of goals, seven in total.
Coldside took an early lead after the restart the A. Valentine pulled one back for Letham .
Coldside then took a three-two lead, only for A. Valentine to pull Letham back level.
This was then followed by another two goals from Coldside, their last from the penalty spot.
A Valentine completed the scoring by notching his hat-trick.
Letham’s man-of-the-match was Gary Balfour.

Letham Lads will face tough opposition as they will take on a a crop of former Letham players on June 18, a game which will be followed by the annual general meeting and presentation of awards.
