Nineteen Friockheim and District Walkers attended the July monthly meeting near Crianlarich on Sunday, July 17, the starting point being the lay-by two kilometres south of the village on the A82
The route followed was a track south-easterly for a short distance, then leaving it in a southerly direction to climb up over Sron Gharbh and along the ridge known as Twistin Hill up to the summit of An Caisteal, the first munro of the day at 995 mts.
A few of the group deciding to return from there and the remaining 14 walkers continued to Bealach Buidhe before climbing up the steep west face of Beinn a’Chroin, cutting back up a little gully to negotiate a rock step thus adding excitement to the route (for some!).
The summit ridge was soon reach with the cairn at 942 metres.
The return was down over Stob Glas Bheag then north-westerly into Coire Earb to follow a very boggy path to re-join the south end of the outward track back to the commencing point. Distances of approximately eleven and 15 kilometres respectively were covered.
Weather conditions were reasonably good with early showers clearing to allow extensive view from the tops before showers returning later
There are still seats on the bus for the August meet to climb Beinn a’Chochuill and Beinn Eunaich (Dalmally) contact Caroline to reserve a place.
